55ft Long Snake Found In China

55ft Long Snake Found In China

A photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation.

It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People's Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous boas found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province.

They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

"On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared," said the post.

"At the same time, another gold coloured giant boa appeared with its mouth wide open. The driver was paralysed with fear, while the other workers ran for their lives.

"By the time the workers came back, the wounded boa had died, while the other snake had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn't even stand up."

The post claimed that the digger driver was so traumatised that he suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital and later died.

The dead snake was 55ft (16.7m) long, weighed 300kg and was estimated to be 140 years old, according to the post.

However, local government officials in Guiping say the story and photograph are almost certainly a hoax as giant boas are not native to the area.

  • Incredible Fruit And Vegetable Arts

I’m a big fan of people finding inspiration in everyday things to create something interesting, so these trippy pictures of animals made from various fruits and vegetables was right up my alley. Whoever did these would have made a hell of an elementary school art teacher since these are all an improvement over making things out of popsicle sticks.

    World's biggest meatball Record

  • meatball
An American restaurant has set a new record after its chefs cooked up the world's largest meatball.

Owners of Nonni's Italian Eatery in New Hampshire created the mega-meatball, which weighed in at 222.5 pounds.

Matthew Mitnitsky, owner of Nonni's, said the giant ball of mince was authenticated as the largest on the planet after being weighed by officials from the state weights and measures department.

A Guinness Book of World Records official also confirmed it as a record breaker and presented Mr Mitnitsky with a plaque.

The old record of 198.6 pounds was set just over a month ago after Los Angeles-based talk show host Jimmy Kimmel vowed to beat a record set in Mexico. That record of 109 pounds was set in August.

A proud Mr Mitnitsky said he got involved "to bring the meatball back to the East Coast because that's where it originated."

Speaking before the record attempt he told local press: "You know me. I take something small and see what I can do to make it bigger.

"This all started when we were reviewing sales from our three restaurant locations. Our meatballs came out on top at every location. So I thought, let's create a family event around the meatball."

He insisted that the meatball, which took three days to cook, would be "totally edible".

To celebrate the achievement, the restaurant held a meatball eating contests and a childrens' meatball ladle run.

    worlds largest rubber band ball

Record breaker Joel Waul will find his driveway looks rather empty this morning.

For the giant rubber band ball he spent six years creating is no longer there.

It's a record: The rubber band ball has been sold for an undisclosed fee

The 28-year-old waved off his 6ft 7in masterpiece yesterday as a crane hauled its 9,032lb bulk from his home in Lauderhill, Florida, to a museum, having sold it for an undisclosed sum.

Mr Waul's creation was declared the world's largest rubber band ball by the Guinness Book of World Records last year.

He got the idea six years ago when he saw a television programme that showed the then-largest rubber band ball being dropped into the desert from an airplane.

'I just thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen,' he said.

The ball has been bought by the Orlando-based Ripley's Believe It of Not museums.

Edward Meyer, vice president of Ripley's said: 'We already have the largest string and barbed-wire balls. This is now my holy trinity, I guess.'

The former record holder was Steven Milton of Eugene, Oregon, who created a 4,600lb ball using over 175,000 rubber bands. It was recorded as the world's largest in November 2006 in Chicago.

Milton broke the previous record set by John Bain in 1999, whose ball weighed 3,120lb.
